Approach
Parts Work
A compassionate way of understanding yourself that assumes every part of you is trying to help — even the parts that make life hard.
The premise
No part of you is the enemy.
After difficult experiences, we tend to develop different parts of ourselves that take on protective jobs. The critic isn't cruel — it's trying to keep you from being hurt again. The part that uses food or numbing to cope isn't broken — it's carrying something on your behalf. In this work we get to know each part, rather than trying to banish it.
Why it fits trauma work
Because you were never one thing.
Survival splinters us in small, wise ways. Naming and befriending those parts — and helping the nervous system feel safe enough that they can stop working overtime — is often where the most tender healing happens.
How Lauren works with parts
Parts-centered, never doctrinaire.
Lauren offers parts-centered, nervous-system-informed work woven together with somatic therapy, EMDR, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy — always shaped to fit you, never applied as a rigid protocol.
Common questions
What people ask.
- What do you mean by 'parts'?
- Most of us notice that there are different sides of us — an inner critic, a protector, a part that shuts down, a part that pushes hard. Everyone has them. They're a normal feature of being human, not a sign that something is wrong with you.
- What if I don't feel my parts?
- That's common at first. We start with what's here — sensations, thoughts, images, moods — and let the map fill in slowly, at the pace your nervous system can tolerate.
