Approach

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

A structured way of building tolerance for what your system has learned to fear — used thoughtfully, and never in isolation from your nervous system.

What it is

Learning that you can stay.

ERP invites contact with the thought, sensation, or situation your system usually tries to escape — while we practice not doing the escape behavior. Over time, your nervous system learns something new.

How we use it

With the whole picture in mind.

I don't use ERP as a stand-alone technique. It sits inside a trauma-informed relationship, with somatic and IFS work weaving through, and always at a pace you agree to.

Common questions

What people ask.

Is ERP only for OCD?
ERP was developed for OCD and is also used with related patterns, including some forms of anxiety and eating disorder behavior. Fit matters — we'd talk about whether it's right for you.
Isn't ERP hard?
It asks something of you, yes. That's why we build resources first and go at the pace your nervous system can actually integrate.
