# Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

Understanding food, hunger, and control as the language of a nervous system asking for care.

An eating disorder is rarely about food. It's about safety, control, worthiness, grief, connection — and about a body that has learned to hold what words could not.

Rather than focusing on what's "wrong" with you, I view symptoms as adaptive responses to life experiences and work to understand them with curiosity and compassion.

How this shows up

* * *

## In the body's own words.

Maybe you've said something like:

- "I feel out of control."
- "I go 0 to 100."
- "I can't feel anything anymore."

Those are the language of a nervous system that has been working overtime to keep you safe. Together, we listen to what it's been trying to say.

How we work

* * *

## Weight-inclusive. No numbers. No comparisons.

This is a weight-inclusive practice. You will never be weighed, measured, or asked to track. There are no before-and-after stories here, no size talk, no calorie math.

We work with what's underneath — the felt sense in your body, the parts of you that use food to cope, the beliefs that got installed a long time ago — usingsomatic therapy (https://braveemberswellness.com/approaches/somatic-based-therapy), EMDR (https://braveemberswellness.com/approaches/eye-movement-desensitization-and-reprocessing-emdr-therapy), parts-centered work (https://braveemberswellness.com/approaches/parts-work), ERP (https://braveemberswellness.com/approaches/exposure-and-response-prevention-therapy-erp), and experiential practices (https://braveemberswellness.com/approaches/experiential-therapy) as they fit.

If your care benefits from a treatment team, I'm glad to collaborate.

Who this is for

* * *

## Adults, whether you have a diagnosis or not.

I work with adults across Pennsylvania and Arizona, including Glendale and Phoenix, via secure telehealth. You may be coming from residential care, or you may never have told anyone. You don't need to have it figured out before you reach out.

Common questions

* * *

## What people ask.

Do I have to have a diagnosis to reach out?

No. Disordered eating exists on a spectrum, and you don't need a label to deserve support. If food, hunger, or eating is taking up too much space in your life, that's enough.

Will we talk about food and eating specifically?

We will — carefully, and always alongside the emotional and nervous-system landscape underneath. This isn't a meal-plan-first practice.

Do you work with a treatment team?

When it helps, yes. Depending on where you are in your recovery, we may coordinate with a dietitian and medical provider so you're supported from more than one angle.

What if I'm still ambivalent about recovery?

You're welcome exactly as you are. Ambivalence is part of the story — we don't have to resolve it before we start.
